Plein Air with Gouache
MAR 4 - 7, 2027 | SCOTTSDALE

New to plein air, or just want to get comfortable painting outside? This 4-day workshop at Scottsdale Artists' School breaks the process into manageable, step-by-step parts.

  • Day 1, studio: we lay the groundwork with preliminary studies.

  • Days 2 and 3, outdoors: we paint in the Arizona sunshine, learning how to observe light, simplify, and capture what we see.

  • Day 4, studio: we use our field studies to create more finished paintings.

  • Total beginners are welcome, and this workshop is also a great refresh for painters switching mediums.

Portable equipment and transportation required (though you can probably Uber to locatins).

Plein Air Gouache Tandem Workshop
SEPT 5 - 12, 2027 | UMBRIA, ITALY

Join Tiffanie Mang and me for seven days of plein air gouache in the Italian countryside! Two instructors means double the demos, double the feedback, and two perspectives on capturing the light and color of Umbria. Transportation, castle accommodations, and chef-prepared meals are all included, so all you have to do is paint. This is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and only a few spots are left.

Plein Air in Golden

Kick off autumn with a week of plein air across the Rocky Mountain foothills! From our base in charming Golden, we'll explore a new location each day, from iconic Red Rocks Park to secluded rivers and quiet pine forests. With luck, we'll catch the aspens changing. Small, fresh paintings will help us observe and capture scenes quickly, and you'll learn to capture the spirit of the West using techniques you can take anywhere. Locals welcome!
